Moving Forward

Care Home For Autism And Aspergers

Training Flat

Our training flat is situated off-site; it is available to all Service Users. It is mainly used to teach Service Users who are looking to move forward to Supported Living the Independent Living Skills that they need to support themselves out in the community.

At the flat they work with our Day Service Coordinator to build a structured timetable to work on the skills that they need for living on their own or with others in supported living accommodation. These skills can be anything that they need to learn or require help with to improve, skills such as cooking, day planning, housekeeping, budgeting etc.

The Day Service Coordinator and the Service User will use the flat and spend 1-1 time developing the skills that they require for living out in the community.

Supported Living

This is the next step after the training flat; the service users that are ready for the next step will be able to move into our shared supported living accommodation.

Service users will be able to have independence space in their own rooms but still have company with other service users living there. This gives people the ability to be able to ask other service users for help with anything they need such as cooking, budgeting even going out for food shopping. They would be able to support each other whilst still learning to live independently.

The service users will still have a dedicated member of staff available to them if they have any problems; the member of staff will also be available to teach them anything the service user comes across in supported living that they did not learn in the training flat. The process of supported living is an on-going learning process and staff will work together with the service users to ensure that the services users can work to their full potential to have a successful life outside of residential care.
